Galway in the summertime

Ah summer time in Galway, breathe it in, get a breath of that country air, breathe the beauty of it everywhere, get a look at that clear blue sky. Summer days spent lying on the grass down at Spanish Arch, not a care in the world…

There are plenty of attractions to catch the eye in Ireland during the summer. June, July and August sees a host of music festivals including electric picnic, oxygen and the midlands music festival but it’s out west in Galway where the best Irish summer festivals are happening.

Things seem to go a bit quite towards the end of may and early June with many of the students leaving the city but its not long before the town is buzzing again with the prospect of a fun filled summer

The Galway arts festival kicks off on the 17th of July. The festival offers the best in music, theatre and dance, visual art and comedy. Street theatre also plays a major part in the festival providing wonderful entertainment for the summer shoppers. The organizers have gone all out this year bringing in some of the finest national and international acts including such homegrown talent as Bell X1 and David Kitt and major stars such as Lambchop and David Gray.

The biggest festival in Galway has to be the Galway races. The Races become more popular every year with record-breaking crowds thronging the city. There is hardly an empty bed or empty bar for that matter to be found in the city. The festival attracts punters from every walk of life. There are big time gamblers willing to risk the shirt of their back as well as the more casual gambler who is likely to stick a pin in the form guide and risk a euro or two on the result.

For those who just cant get enough gambling there is the option of a trip to Salthill to try your luck in the casinos. One armed bandits or slot machines as some people call them are only too willing to take your money .The Galway Race festival lasts for 7 day and runs from July 31st to August 6th.

The oyster festival, one for the food connoisseurs among you takes place in September. This event has proved hugely popular over the years bringing many new faces and strange accents to the city. The pride of the Galway oyster festival is the Native oysters called “Ostrea Edulis”. I’m told the oysters go down particularly well with a few pints of Guinness. Not being an oyster eater myself I will have to take their word for it.

Another treat for the artistically minded community in Galway is the film fleadh. This event gives local filmmakers a wonderful opportunity to showcase their talents. The festival also attracts many international filmmakers as well as their famous leading men and women. In the past such luminaries as Jim Sheridan, Woody Harrelson, Sir Richard Attenborough and Michael Moore have attended the festival

So Galway for the summer then? Have I convinced you? Go on you know you want to…:-)

Golf in the Costa Tropical, Andalucia

According Real Federacion Española de Golf, their research has revealed some interesting statistics. According to them there were 35,462 registered golfers in Andalucia in May 2003 and has increased incredibly over the years. In 1983, the number of registered golfers in Costa Tropical was 33,711 as compared to 25,700 in the other areas of Spain.

Ramon Davila, the President of Andalusian Association of Land Developers of Residential and Sporting Tourism has said that there is a requirement for another 30 golf courses in the region. Golf has become a popular sport over the years in this region because of the number of foreign tourists visiting each year and because of the climate. Andalucian climate just seems to be so perfect for a game of golf.

Right now there are 9, 18, 36 and 54 holes golf complexes available to tourists as well as part-time residents in this region. Some of the top regions with golf courses include:

Huelva
There are several golf course projects in the pipeline and under construction in Huelva like the 36-hole course at Ayamonte and a par 72 championship course as well as a par 71 measuring 6,300m. One of the popular places for playing golf in Huelva is the Islantilla golf resort, which is a 27-hole golf complex. The El Rompido Golf & Beach Resort is situated just an hour away from Huelva.

Cadiz
One of the popular golf courses here is the Novo Sancti Petri that has been extended from being a 27 hole to 36 holes and is expected to be increased to 54 holes.

Golf Courses in Almeria
Almerimar Golf course: 18 holes/72 par
Cortijo Grande: 9 holes/36 par
Los Moriscos: 9 holes/36 par

Golf Courses in Cordoba
Cordoba: 18 holes/72 par
Granada: 18 holes/70 par
Los Moriscos: 9 holes/36 par
Pozoblanco: 9 holes/36 par

Malaga
The Flamingos Golf course is situated on the Marbella side of Costa Tropical. This golf course has been re-designed to host the European Seniors Tour Matchplay Championship. The Villa Padierna golf course is owned by the Grand Luxury hotel and it houses an Academy too. The Flamingo Blanco golf course is an unusual course because it has a par of 59.

The Marbella Club Resort is planning to build a second golf course similar to the previous Dave Thomas course and it is going to be built right in the hills of Costa Tropical. This golf course is being built for the guests at the Marbella Club, Hotel Torrequebrada and the Puente Romano.

There are many more golf courses being built and some are still in the pipeline but it seems that this is going to be the next top Golf destination in the world.

How to Plan the Perfect Spring Break Family Vacation

From time to time everyone needs some time away from their life. It does not matter if you are 10 years old and in 5th grade or 35 years old and working a full time job, to maintain good mental health you have to take the occasional vacation.

Some time around the beginning of April most public and private schools have Spring Break from School which is a great time to plan a vacation.

Most vacations when you have children become about them, and you wind up at places like Disney land or some other child orientated vacation spot, but what about you?

Las Vegas used to be known as an adult getaway where what happens there stays there. This is no longer the case. Over the past 15 years, Las Vegas realized that more money can be made from a family orientated city rater then just from gambling.

Many casinos started adding attractions for children like go carts and other amusements, and many other activities aimed at giving a child a good time, but the casinos also opened up day care centers, so parents can get some time to enjoy themselves as well.

I know when I would go to Disney World with my kids after the 2nd or 3rd day I was looking forward to getting back to work.

For the last several years we have been going to Las Vegas for our family Vacations over spring break and the kids enjoy it. They get to go on roller coasters, swim, play video games, watch movie the list really goes on and on for all the things they can do, and I get to spend a few hours ever day with my wife in the spa getting a message, eating in nice restaurants and playing some Blackjack in the casinos.

Since we started doing this I have seen my family grow closer. My wife noticed that I am in a better mood for the rest of the year after we get back from vacation. I am enjoying my job more and all in all life is just better.

Putting together a Los Vegas vacation is very simple to do. You can go to a travel agent, or do it yourself online. I have always preferred to go to a travel agent and just let them do it, but if you are trying to save money you can get some good deals online that a travel agent can't or won't offer you.

If you choose to do it yourself, it is easy to do. You can go to your computer and do a search for Las Vegas. You will see every casinos and hotel listed and you can go thru them one at a time and see what they offer for you and your family to do.

You will also see everything the city and surrounding areas have to offer, and there really are tons of fun things for everyone in Las Vegas.

I hope to see you and your family there.

Disney Land Park tips

So you decided to go to Disney Land Park? Great decision. Holidays at Disney are always a great way to spend the festivities and have a lovely time with your family. As may already know Disney is a big corporation and you can find many different disney parks. From Disney land to Disney world, you can choose many locations around the world. I have to confess I'm a disney land fanatic, I love it , and if you are going with your kdis, you will have a lovely time. Disney is one of that parks that many times adults enjoy more and even the kids.

Usually when you buy a ta disney land park ticket you need to keep in mind the ticket is for a full day and that means that you should take as much advantage as possible for the money you are paying. This mean: wake up early and try to arrive to the park as pronto as possible. Disney land parks open pretty early and usually close late at night time after their last show and their fireworks.

To buy tickets you can usually check places like Ebay, trust me you can get great deals from Auction sites. The reason is simple to understand, many families face sometimes personal problems and they need to cancel their holidays and the tickets can't be refunded. That's why this tickets usually go for a very good price.

You can find disney land tickets for all the disney parks including Los Angeles, Orlando, Florida, Hong Kong, and Paris. Regarless the park you want to book, it is clear that it is a good investment.

Tickets are not expensive at all, but if why not trying to safe money in the entry and then expend the rest with your family.

Always remember that the whole disney experience is not cheap ,and sometimes the basic things can be very expensive, like drinks, ice creams and snacks. So be smart and take some food with you and try to explain to your kids that they can't buy all the toys in the stores. Make with them a plan and try to explain them they are only allowed to buy one toy from the disney stores locates in the park.

Disney is all about imagination and if you plan your trip well and get the tickets that you need , fro sure will have a great day out. One of the best advices I ever got was to plan your route around the park, so try not to take the most logical route. The reason? well, the answer is pretty obvious: almost all the tourist take the easiest route, and if you just follow them, you will face longer waiting time to enter the rides and shows.

So why not starting from the back?
Try to take a train or minibus as soon as you enter the park and tackle the park from back to front, in that way you avoid the rush, the long waiting time and you have more time to enjoy a larger number of attactions.

Southampton Airport: a cheap gateway to the UK?

The rise of the internet seems to have brought many benefits, one of which has undoubtedly been the increasing flexibility that we now have at our disposal when booking holidays.

This is particularly true in the case of flights. Online flight price comparison websites ensure that we can shop around to seek out the best deal from a variety of agents and airlines.

People flying to and from the United Kingdom have possibly benefited more than most. There seem to be numerous budget airlines based in the UK, allowing easy access to Europe at cheap prices. The new budget airlines have also brought benefits for regional airports – the likes of Exeter, Bournemouth, Doncaster, Southampton and Norwich have been growing a great deal.

Let’s look at one of these specifically – Southampton Airport. This airport on the outskirts of the Southern coastal city was relatively small until recently, specialising in flights to the Channel Islands. The arrival of Flybe has meant that much has changed. There are now flights in and out of Southampton from beautiful cities like Geneva, Paris and Amsterdam. Not to mention the cheap flights available to popular holiday resorts.

Despite this growth, Southampton often seems to be overlooked as an arrival airport for travellers looking to get to the UK on a budget. This is particularly strange given the close proximity of Southampton Airport to London (it is, after all, barely an hour by train from the airport’s dedicated mainline railway station to London Waterloo, in the heart of the capital city).

This short journey time means that Southampton is barely further away from Central London than Stansted. You’ll also find that processing of your baggage at the airport tends to be much faster than that found at more major airports, since there are less incoming flights. Taking this into the equation, you may well find that your journey time could even be reduced.

So next time you’re looking to visit London (or maybe looking for a cheap flight out of the UK) don’t forget to look at the offers available at Southampton Airport. You may find that the prices will come as a pleasant surprise, while the journey into Central London is so straightforward that you’ll not lose any time on your holiday.

How To Choose A Holiday Villa Abroad

Renting a holiday villa abroad can be a risk, particularly if you’re booking your villas online. We’ve all heard the horror stories about resort hotels that have turned out to be part-built or badly run, and we all want to avoid similar bad experiences.

Most of us now turn to the internet to look for the things that make up our holiday – flights, accommodation, car hire – and then book online, crossing out fingers that everything turns out well. What can you do to avoid a disaster when you arrive at your destination?

1. Recommendations

Booking a holiday villa in Spain, Portugal, Cyprus or anywhere else in Europe is always easier if you’ve had a property or rental company recommended to you. Talk to friends who have rented villas before and find out what sort of experiences they have had. Use their experiences to define what you do and don’t want in a holiday villa – this will help you when you are browsing through the hundreds of villas that are advertised on the internet.

2. Check out the rental company

There are a lot of villa rental companies on the internet – how do you know which are reputable and which are not? The best thing to do is to take a good look at their site, and then give them a call. No matter how wonderful the web site design is, if the staff aren’t helpful or no-one answers the phone, then it’s best to stay away. Good villa rental agencies will give you all the help and additional information you need, together with a contact number you can ring if you have any difficulties during your stay. You should also get something through the post to confirm your booking, so that you can take paperwork with you to show the agent or travel representative when you get there.

A villa holiday in Europe is a chance to relax and make the most of the location and the weather. By making a few simple checks before you commit to booking a villa, you can ensure that your holiday is truly stress-free.

Piraeus - the port of ancient Athens

Piraeus, also known as Peiraeus or Pireas, is a city located in the prefecture of Attica, towards the southern side of Athens. This city's main attraction is based on the fact that in ancient Greece, it was used as Athens' main port, and therefore it played a very important role in the city's life.

Besides than being the port of ancient Athens, Piraeus has been also named port of modern Athens since 1834. This way, nowadays this port can be seen in action, and although it does not look just like it used in ancient Greece, it still shows some of such antique characteristics which turn it into a very interesting and peculiar place to meet.

The name of this area, Piraeus, means "the place over the passage", a meaning which is very significant to its past history. In its origins as a populated area, Piraeus was a small island which was connected to the land by a narrow stretch of land. Although at first the area received other denominations, this geographical characteristic finally inspired the actual name.

Although its main port is the most famous one, Piraeus also has two other smaller harbors which have also helped turning this spot into a very active one. The benefits of this spot and its harbor was not noticed until the decade of 490 BC when Themistocles constructed a fortification by this spot with the purpose of being able t easily use the ports and protect the citizens of Athens from Persians’ attacks.

Piraeus has a population of about 175.000 people, with a density of 15.972 inhabitants per km2. IT is one of the few municipal authorities located within the metropolitan area of Athens. Besides Pireus, this metropolitan area has other municipal authorities among which we can name Keratsini, Korydalos, Drapetsona, Nikaia, Perama, and Rentis.

Piraeus has been home town of several important people, such as per example the Andrianoloulos brothers, who founded the Olympiacos sporting club, Yiorgos Batis, an important Greek musician who lived between 1885 and 1967, or Dimitris Gkogkos, an important Greek musician from beginnings of the XX century.

The great Sparta

In ancient times, Sparta was one of the most important spots in not only Greece, but the entire Europe as well. During such époque, the territory of Sparta would comprehend the regions nowadays known as Messenia and Laconia. Nowadays, only a small portion of that ancient territory continues being called Sparta, an area located towards the northern side of Laconia. Modern Sparta is situated within a fertile plain which allows it to produce citrus and olives as well as a variety of other fruits and vegetables usually distributed throughout many other towns and spots in Peloponnese.

The history of Sparta is very rich and interesting, and provides this destination with a unique charm and appealing. During Ancient Greece times, Sparta was known as the most powerful state with the major naval force in the entire country. During those times, Athens and Sparta became strong allies against the Persian invaders, although they became enemies after a while as well.

One interesting fact to know about Sparta is that it used to have two kings. During the époque in which this territory was known as the Doric State of Sparta, it had a mixed governmental state which would allow two hereditary kings to rule at the same time and with equal powers. This peculiarity has been explained through several different theories, although there is not any single one which could be completely confirmed as certain.

Sparta was seen and known within Greece as a spot of military power. This is due to the fact that most Spartans used to be trained and prepared to be soldiers, and they could only change to another profession by specific request and permission. This was applied very strictly, and those who wouldn't want to follow it would have to face hard penalties.

Nowadays, the destination known as Sparta contains many spots which allow tourists to meet the past of this territory face to face and explore many constructions, ruins, and structures which allow visitors to learn about the different aspects of this antique powerful region. Modern Sparta and its surroundings is a very interesting destination, which all those who enjoy history would find especially appealing.

Villas Turkey

It's a huge country littered with interesting artefacts and populated by some of the friendliest people on earth. Flowers seem to burst from every crevice, the sun shines endlessly, transport systems are efficient Scenery ranges from dull to mind-boggling, beaches are fair, prices are low and shopping is excellent, especially leatherware in Istanbul. Driving is suprisingly safe, apart from mad Istanbul taxi drivers and night driving.

Knocking at Europe’s door yet on the threshold of Asia, Turkey is truly a land of contrasts. Here you can scale the icy heights of remote Mount Ararat in search of Noah’s Ark, cross the historic Euphrates and Tigris rivers, follow in the footsteps of St Paul or simply relax on the golden Mediterranean sands of Patara beach.

Vibrant Istanbul, straddling the blue waters of the Bosphorus separating Europe from Asia, beckons with its skyline pierced by countless minarets, chaotic bazaars and a history redolent with harem intrigue and despotic Sultans. In Turkey, you can also cruise along more than 1000km (620 miles) of Mediterranean coastline, past secluded coves, rocky headlands and pretty fishing villages, or explore a hinterland rich in the wonderfully preserved remains of Graeco-Roman cities such as Ephesus.

Turkey Villas are abundent all along the Aegean and Mediterranean coasts and many are luxurious, spacious and with pricate pools. The combination of a rental care and a beautiful Turkey Villas makes for a great Turkey Holiday.

The history of Argos

Argos is an ancient Greek city which is part of the prefecture of Argolis, in the region of the Peloponnese. It has four main subdivisions: Kokla, Larissa, Akova, and Timenio. This city has gone through several interesting historical events, and its past is among the main factors which attract tourists to its lands.

During the Mycenaean times, the city of Argos was an important stronghold, and was seen by the rest of the region as a strategic spot. This area was one of the first spots in the region in being inhabited and to become a town, only equaled by the acropolis of Tiryns and Mycenae.

In the Homeric times, the city of Argos was ruled by a follower of Agamemnon, and the name of the district in which this city is located, Argolis, was originated from such époque. Later, during the Romans, the region would be known as Argeia since that was the name given by these inhabitants.

During the Persian War, Argos was asked to fight and refused to do so, which caused it to be somehow despised by many of the neighboring cities for certain period of time. This was one of the most critical and difficult moments in the history of Argos, although it was soon overcome and become part of the past.

At beginnings of the 12th century, one of the most interesting constructions of Argos was built, the Castle of Larissa. Besides this construction, this city and its surroundings have received several amazing buildings and constructions as time passed by, some of them can be still seen.

Nowadays, the city of Argos is the largest city in the prefecture of Argolis, and one of the most visited by tourists as well. Argolis' economy is mainly based on agriculture, and oranges as well as other critics are among the main resources of the city. There are many interesting spots visitors can meet while they are in Argos, such as the Archeological Museum or many antique constructions, they should ask for information on the town's main attractions in order to make sure of meeting not missing any of them.

How and Where To Enjoy Gorilla Safari While On African Holiday

Gorillas are threatened primate species in the world with the remaining living in Africa and in countries Uganda, Rwanda and Democratic Republic of Congo.

Known to be the largest living primates on Earth, Gorillas are of three kinds; 1) Eastern Lowland Gorillas, which reside in the Democratic Republic of the Congo; 2) Western Lowland Gorillas which live only in West Africa and: 3) Mountain Gorillas, which are only found in Uganda, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Listed as one of the top 10 threatened / endangered species, there are only 655 species remaining. There are approximately 355 gorillas in the Volcano and Virunga Mountains of Rwanda and Congo and another separate group of 300 in Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. There are no Mountain Gorillas living outside of their native mountain forest home. Gorillas are protected by international law. Capturing or killing gorillas and other endangered species is illegal.

Unlike chimps, Gorillas live in groups / families without territorial boundaries but with family’s range from 2 to 15 square miles. The females decide who they are going to allow into their family. If a gorilla wants to join another group and the females do not want her in, they will scratch her in the face and keep her out. If a female wants to leave a group to find a male she likes better, but the other females like her very much, they will grab her by the legs and not allow her to leave.

Female gorillas weigh approximately 350 pounds and adult male gorillas can weigh approximately 700 pounds. Adult gorillas can be seven feet tall with an arm span of 8 feet.

Gorillas feed on 58 different types of plant species, including stems, roots, leaves, flowers, thistles, ferns, tree wood and bamboo shoots. Gallium vines, fruits and celery are their favorite foods. Gorillas have much larger teeth in the back of their mouth than humans do so that they can grind foliage, bark and bamboo.

Gorillas like human are curious, they can be bored, bold, annoyed, have pleasure, excited, afraid, can worry, show affection, be thoughtful and they can be hostile. Gorillas like to study people to see if they are friendly.

Gorillas communicate by stomach rumbling which means they are contented, a pig grunt of harsh staccato grunts used when disciplining or complaining. A roar or scream is given when a gorilla is threatened. A loud hoot or roar is given when silverbacks are interacting. This is done by chest beating and thrashing of trees. When gorillas are afraid they send out a powerful odor from their glands.

Having endured decades of civil war in Central and East Africa, gorillas are confronted by the devastating consequences of increased habitat loss, poaching for the bush meat trade and the spread of dangerous diseases like Ebola. “These animals are Threatened” therefore make a tour to these countries to have a look at the few remaining primate giants before they are lost. Spend some time with them, they are awe-inspiring.

Gorilla tracking the Activity.

On this day, in the morning you wake up to a breakfast and then transfer to the park headquarters for the briefing before you set off at 9:00 am through the tracks to search for the humble giants. You have to go with packed lunch as the time taken to before meeting the great apes is un predictable. However the time ranges between 2-9 hours depending on the movement of the giant primates (Gorillas). The activity is tiresome, it involves walking along steep hilly tracks however encountering these great relatives of man erases all the poor memories/ hardships you went through in trying to find them. They are awesome!

Safaris to see the gorillas of Africa can be arranged by Sydah Naigaga of Access Africa Safaris

California Is Sunshine And Fun

Sunshine and fun is what California in USA is all about. This Pacific Ocean bathed state was one of the last to be incorporated into the union, but soon became one of the first on the list for travel and holiday entertainment. It shone bright with so many stars when Hollywood opened its gates. And talking about gates, was known for its innovative methods in construction when it built the Golden Gate Bridge. And it was Walt Disney's choice when he decided to build the happiest place on earth, creating Disneyland. It is easy to travel up and down the whhhole Califonia coastline with a fantastic car rental from any of the airport locations, visiting museums, natural parks and other theme parks, making your California dream come true.

Los Angeles Radiates with Excitement

Los Angeles, LA or as some call it ' The City of Angels' is saturated with all kinds of entertainment. What firstly calls the visitors attention is anything that has to do with Hollywood and its stars. The first stop is usually Hollywood Boulevard to the Walk of fame where you can see whose hand and footprints have a likeness to yours while visiting the Kodak Theatre, famous for the Oscar celebrations. And if your are lucky, you might share a fitting room with someone famous as you go shopping on Rodeo Drive in the Beverly Hills neighbourhood, at Santa Monica Square or on Hollywood Drive. From Muholland Drive you can click away at the famous 'Hollywood' sign which is a symbol known to everyone all over the world. All this excitement and its has not even cost you a penny!

Not too far outside of LA, in Anaheim, you can find the 'Happiest Place on Earth' which everyone knows is Disneyland. I went there thinking that I would be trailing around after my children while they lived the dream of their lives, but I can assure you that I was more thrilled and enthused than my kids. I relived childhood adventures that I thought had long passed with my buddies Mickey and Minnie and shared new ones with my family. The price of $86 for adults and $76 for kids over 9 years of age with transport from our hotel was well worth it. I have been told that Disney world is better, but only seeing is believing. Many friends of mine have even opted for buying apartments in the Los Angeles area so that when they spend their holidays there, they do not have to worry about lodgings. One dream spot is in the Palisades, a small town residential area not far from Sunset Boulevard and only a stone's throw from the impressive three mile run cliffs that stop the Pacific from entering.

Crossing California to San Francisco

But if you really want to get a good grip on California, then let's go down to the Pacific Ocean and over to the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. One thing is to stand at a distance and admire its greatness but the best is to be part of it. There are bike ride tours over the bridge which first take you along the Bay Trail past various interesting points and then over the 1.7 mile long bridge. But San Francisco woud not be complete without a visit to the Island of Alcatraz and its piercing prison and museum filled with tingling history. Everything about California makes you tingle!
