Old Alabama Town in Alabama - A Great Vacation and Travel Destination

If you are interested in visiting an amazing village in the south then you must check out Old Alabama Town in Alabama. This village is made up of quite a few 19th and
20th century buildings that are authentic and have been restored to their original beauty. Located in Montgomery, Alabama, the town stretches over six blocks in the
historic downtown area of this city. That's a pretty big area and it can take up to half a day to wander around and see the architecture and all the buildings.

When you visit Old Alabama Town it is like you are walking into the late 1800s and by entering this realm you can "meet" the people who had such a huge impact on
developing this part of Alabama simply by reading about their lives and seeing where they lived and worked. Seeing how the different buildings were in their original form helps visitors see the distinct difference in lifestyle from city dwellers and those who lived in more rural areas.

More than 40 different buildings have been restored in this tiny little village and by doing so the non profit corporation in charge of it all is helping people remember the past
and learn from it for future benefits. You truly will be amazed when you visit Old Alabama Town and kids will be especially filled with wonder. That's because they can see how buildings were constructed so many years ago and give them a new appreciation for the world today.

Everyone who visits Old Alabama Town leaves with a renewed appreciation for all the hard work of our ancestors to make a better world not to mention a newfound appreciation for today's conveniences. This is a fabulous day trip for singles, families, and pretty much any tourist who would enjoy a good time learning about the past.

Italian Translation Into English - Days & Months

I have an ongoing interest in Italian English translation and Italian life in general. I hope this article Italian Translation into English - Days & Months' will help those trying to learn the Italian language. If these articles prove of interest then I will continue writing a whole series on these subjects.

Italian / English Translation of the Months of the Year
gennaio — January
febbraio — February
marzo — March
aprile — April
maggio — May
giugno — June
luglio — July
agosto — August
settembre — September
ottobre — October
novembre — November
dicembre — December

Unlike the English translation, in Italian the names for days of the week are not capitalised.

Here is an Italian English Translation of some other useful phrases;
Che mese è? - What month is it?
In che mese siamo? - What month are we in?
È dicembre - Its December
Siamo in dicembre - We are in December

Italian / English Translation of the Days of the Week
lunedì — Monday
martedì — Tuesday
mercoledì — Wednesday
giovedì — Thursday
venerdì — Friday
sabato — Saturday
domenica — Sunday

Again, unlike the English translation, in Italian the names for days of the week are not capitalised. So the translation is not only the letters but also the capitalisation.

Here is an Italian Translation of some other useful phrases;
oggi - today
domani - tomorrow
Oggi è martedì - Today is Tuesday
Domani è giovedi - Tomorrow is Thursday

For me there is another side to this translation. Mondays in England v Mondays in Italy.
Generally an English Monday is rainy and depressing. But lets translate that to an Italian Monday. Sure you still have the daily commute. But it's much more likely to be a sunny day (even in winter). So even though you might wish you were still at the beach or skiing down a mountain, you feel much more happy. Especially as you stop for a coffee and take the time to talk Italian with strangers before starting work.

How To Choose A Holiday Villa Abroad

Renting a holiday villa abroad can be a risk, particularly if you’re booking your villas online. We’ve all heard the horror stories about resort hotels that have turned out to be part-built or badly run, and we all want to avoid similar bad experiences.

Most of us now turn to the internet to look for the things that make up our holiday – flights, accommodation, car hire – and then book online, crossing out fingers that everything turns out well. What can you do to avoid a disaster when you arrive at your destination?

1. Recommendations

Booking a holiday villa in Spain, Portugal, Cyprus or anywhere else in Europe is always easier if you’ve had a property or rental company recommended to you. Talk to friends who have rented villas before and find out what sort of experiences they have had. Use their experiences to define what you do and don’t want in a holiday villa – this will help you when you are browsing through the hundreds of villas that are advertised on the internet.

2. Check out the rental company

There are a lot of villa rental companies on the internet – how do you know which are reputable and which are not? The best thing to do is to take a good look at their site, and then give them a call. No matter how wonderful the web site design is, if the staff aren’t helpful or no-one answers the phone, then it’s best to stay away. Good villa rental agencies will give you all the help and additional information you need, together with a contact number you can ring if you have any difficulties during your stay. You should also get something through the post to confirm your booking, so that you can take paperwork with you to show the agent or travel representative when you get there.

A villa holiday in Europe is a chance to relax and make the most of the location and the weather. By making a few simple checks before you commit to booking a villa, you can ensure that your holiday is truly stress-free.

Piraeus - the port of ancient Athens

Piraeus, also known as Peiraeus or Pireas, is a city located in the prefecture of Attica, towards the southern side of Athens. This city's main attraction is based on the fact that in ancient Greece, it was used as Athens' main port, and therefore it played a very important role in the city's life.

Besides than being the port of ancient Athens, Piraeus has been also named port of modern Athens since 1834. This way, nowadays this port can be seen in action, and although it does not look just like it used in ancient Greece, it still shows some of such antique characteristics which turn it into a very interesting and peculiar place to meet.

The name of this area, Piraeus, means "the place over the passage", a meaning which is very significant to its past history. In its origins as a populated area, Piraeus was a small island which was connected to the land by a narrow stretch of land. Although at first the area received other denominations, this geographical characteristic finally inspired the actual name.

Although its main port is the most famous one, Piraeus also has two other smaller harbors which have also helped turning this spot into a very active one. The benefits of this spot and its harbor was not noticed until the decade of 490 BC when Themistocles constructed a fortification by this spot with the purpose of being able t easily use the ports and protect the citizens of Athens from Persians’ attacks.

Piraeus has a population of about 175.000 people, with a density of 15.972 inhabitants per km2. IT is one of the few municipal authorities located within the metropolitan area of Athens. Besides Pireus, this metropolitan area has other municipal authorities among which we can name Keratsini, Korydalos, Drapetsona, Nikaia, Perama, and Rentis.

Piraeus has been home town of several important people, such as per example the Andrianoloulos brothers, who founded the Olympiacos sporting club, Yiorgos Batis, an important Greek musician who lived between 1885 and 1967, or Dimitris Gkogkos, an important Greek musician from beginnings of the XX century.

Last minute holiday shopping can be unbelievable if you head to London, Rome, or Paris for the week before Christmas for some imported gifts. Be on the lookout in the Sunday newspaper for holiday shopping specials and take advantage of the package deals.

For more shopping and sightseeing opportunities thinkGermany for Christmas as all the outdoor activities kick it up a notch for the season. Vienna, Salzburg and Munich are famed for their markets and you can head to one or all three in one trip.

Finally, there are plenty of exotic places left in the world that do not celebrate Christmas except for the tourists they try to attract. Look to Asian countries in general but this year Vietnam seems to have a series of special packages that are attractive.

The Cumberland Falls State Resort Park in Corbin, Kentucky - A Great Vacation and Travel Destination

Close your eyes and imagine a waterfall pouring over the edge and falling with crashes and splashes into a gorge littered with large boulders. Then, feel the mist from the falls blowing through the breeze and kissing your face. What you are imagining is known as the "Niagara of the South", this 125 foot wide waterfall appears to be a curtain of water falling to the gorge below. No matter when you see this waterfall it is amazing and it gives off a different appearance at night and during the day.

One of the most amazing aspects of Cumberland Falls is the moon bow, which only shows up on nights when there is a full moon. That event in itself is worth visiting the falls and if you can plan a trip on a full moon then you will experience something like you have never seen. You won't find anything like this anywhere else in the Western Hemisphere so it really is worth a visit!

The best times left to visit in 2007 to see the moon bow is April 30th, May 1st-4th and 30th-31st, June 1st-3rd and 28th-30th, July 1st-2nd and 28th-31st, August 24th-28th, October 24th-28th, November 22nd-26th, and December 22nd-26th.

You can plan some other activities while you are visiting Cumberland Falls State Park in Corbin, Kentucky. Some of the most popular are canoeing and white water rafting. There are professionals who will take you out on the water if you are looking for a guide. A great place to stay is at the Dupont Lodge, where you can relax and enjoy the view of the valley. While you are in the area you may also enjoy horseback riding, swimming, and other outdoor activities.
